Entrepreneurship | The Road Less Traveled!

Entrepreneurship

Stopping to think why a vast majority of the population prefers to label themselves employees rather than go out and seek entrepreneurial ventures is not something most people think about with frequency. Primarily, because they themselves are employees! As human beings, our psychological make-up doesn’t allow for change very much so we naturally tend to follow what the masses are doing. Most people get up every morning, go to work, get paid when the work week is over, pay bills and do it all over again week after week. It’s a vicious cycle but most people prefer to take the path of employment rather than take advantage of all the benefits that come with becoming entrepreneurs.

When someone decides to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and enter the world of entrepreneurship, immediately they begin operating from the profit system rather than the wage system. By operating from the profit system, Entrepreneurs have no limits or ceilings on how much profit they can earn as opposed to the wage system. In the wage system you have a predetermined salary dictating how much money you will make despite productivity.  Simply put, seeking and starting entrepreneurial ventures are far superior in ideology for the simple fact the profits earned are ownership. By becoming an entrepreneur you are building an income stream that will have no profit restrictions and there is no limit to how many income streams you can have. Essentially, you will be working to make yourself rich instead of someone else.

If Entrepreneurship has so many advantages then why don’t more people leave the traditional job model to start a business?

Entrepreneurship is no walk in the park!

Seeking entrepreneurial ventures and starting a business definitely has its advantages. Way more than I can list in this article alone but the fact of the matter is that entrepreneurship is no walk in the park! Unlike a job, where you show up and someone instructs you on what to do and how to do it, entrepreneurs have to be disciplined enough to manage themselves in time and to complete all necessary tasks that will further develop and enhance productivity for their business. Entrepreneurs have to develop Business Plans, conduct Market Research, develop Marketing Strategies, implement those plans and strategies, measure and collect their findings and adjust. All of this has to be done aside from the tasks required for their businesses to be operational. Entrepreneurs also lose the security of having a weekly paycheck. While entrepreneurs are building their business chances are that in the early stages they will take on some losses as their product or services gains popularity in the market, but that’s normal. Entrepreneurs also have to remain in a constant state of learning, personal development. They have to be persistent  and determined to achieve their overall objective. Simply put, entrepreneurship requires a lot of work that, if done correctly, can allow you to live a lifestyle most only dream about. Yet most are not willing to do what it takes.

Can you hack it?

So, do you think you have what it takes to join the world of entrepreneurship? Today, technology has made it easier than ever to build a business and join New Age Entrepreneurs all around the world. Do you have any entrepreneurship ideas? You don’t need any! Entrepreneurship ideas are everywhere. You can literally open your favorite search engine, type “entrepreneurship ideas” and retrieve hundreds of resources that will help. Another good place to look is entrepreneur forums. Again, open your favorite search engine and type “entrepreneur forums”. Get plugged in, meet other entrepreneurs in your area and determine what entrepreneurial ventures are great for your geographical area.

    Hector,

You offer a fantastic overview into the world of entrepreneurship! I personally think that so many people avoid the road to entrepreneurship simply because it takes hard work and self motivation. Society has taught us from an early age to depend on others to tell us how to work and how often. It takes a true desire to take on such a great task and see it to its success. I applaud those who take the challenge!

Have you ever wondered why is that when you were a child going to school, you were instructed to come in, sit down, be quite and get start down the assignment that was written on the chalk board? Its a mindset that starts way back in the Industrial Age designed to prepare you to work in the factory’s. As you can see, nothing with the education system and work have changed much although everything else about our society has. Thanks for your comment!

This is a great article, quite inspiring and makes a great point. It takes hard work, persistence and determination to achieve the main goal of being your own boss.

I think the main reason why people are not rushing out to become entrepreneurs is because they have to be willing to make a lot of sacrifices and the payoff is not until much later. It can sometimes take years to build a business (even online).

Many of us have been raised with the “I want it right now” mentality. If we can’t get it right now then we don’t want it.

Owning your own business takes time to build and requires tons and tons of sweat equity and sadly, this is still not a guarantee of success.

        There are no guarantees.. none.

What separates the entrepreneur from the employee is that the entrepreneur is willing to keep going and going, even in spite of many failures. They do not give up and they are willing to take risks because in their heart they KNOW that eventually that one plan will work!!

Great article! Don’t ever give up! I’ll keep checking back.

          Hi Jeannie!

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts about the article. I am glad you felt it to be inspirational. I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment that provided the reason why some people don’t become entrepreneurs. I completely agree with you!

Building a business, even if online, is tough and there are no guarantees! It requires time, persistent action and dedication, and a lot of hard work. If we really think about, so does everything else that is worth obtaining. The same can be said about obtaining a university degree. College Students go to school for 4 to 5 years (time) and have to go to class every day, take notes and study (action and dedication) to to achieve their overall objective which is obtaining the college degree that will allow them to acquire a job they desire. However, after you obtain your degree you may not land the job that you had desired all along or worse, you may be left jobless (no guarantees). I learned that the hard way back in 2008 after graduating from Texas A&M. Factors like economic fall out, such as what we are currently experiencing in our economy, have had a direct impact in the course many college grads have had after college.

As one of my favorite authors, Jim Rohn, says “We will all suffer from one of two pains in life, the pains of discipline or the pain of regret”

Thanks again for your comment Jeannie!

Great post Hector. I also checked you bio and yours is an inspirational story. Having graduated at such a bad time as the economic crisis. But you didn’t let that seeming hopeless circumstance deter you from pursuing other avenues to earn a living and even prosper.

      Hi Jeffrey!

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this post as well as for your kind words.

I have always felt that as we go through life every event presents us the opportunity to choose from 1 of 2 options. We can either tumble in the wind and adjust to things as they happen or we can take decisive measures and react to make things to make them work to our benefit.

My decision to become an entrepreneur arose in part a reaction to my employment situation and the economic climate at the time of my college graduation. However, as I continued doing more and more personal study on Entrepreneurship and Leadership, I started to realize that the absolute main reason why most people decide to work for the rest of their lives is not because that’s what they truly want to do. It’s because that is all they have been taught their entire lives. All they know is WORK and have no clue about ENTREPRENEURSHIP and its benefits. People at home tell us to work, School tells us to work and Friends and Family tell us to work!

I am here to change all of that!
